I'm Cheryl Wilson, and this foundation is a tribute to my beloved daughter, Shaquena Mullen, who has autism. Shaquena's journey has inspired us to stand for something truly special, and her name embodies our core values: Special, Hope, Able, Quality, Unique, Equal Rights, Non-verbal, and Acceptance. These values spell out her name, a testament to her uniqueness and the importance of embracing diversity.
Shaquena's autism journey began at the tender age of 3. She is nonverbal, faces intellectual disabilities, aggressive behavioral challenges, and is highly sensitive to certain materials. Today, as a young adult, she grapples with limited opportunities in our state and city, where there is a lack of dedicated support for adults with autism.
Our foundation is fueled by a burning passion and an unwavering mission—to make a meaningful difference in the lives of adults with autism in our community. We aim to create a safe and welcoming haven where they can flourish. Our vision includes sensory rooms, music and dance spaces, art studios, as well as essential services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral therapy. But our commitment doesn't end with high school graduation; it lasts a lifetime. We envision a comprehensive program that continues to support individuals with autism throughout their journey into adulthood. Shaquena's fight is my fight, and together, we promote peace, love, and acceptance in the world of autism.
Join us in making this vision a reality. Your support, whether through sponsorship, donations, or spreading awareness, will help us create a brighter future for those who deserve it the most—individuals like Shaquena and countless others who are seeking their place in the world.
Thank you for being a part of our journey towards peace, love, and acceptance for adults with autism.
